Road Trip 2010: Day 10

First I wanted to start by answering Amy's question.  Technically everywhere we went we could have gotten to without taking a ferry.  From where we were in North Carolina getting to the outer banks we had to or it would be even more inefficient then our trip has already been.  When we went from Delaware to New Jersey we could have gone around too but taking the ferry was a nice break from driving.

Yesterday we started by walking around Kingston, New York.  It was a really cute town in the Catskills.  It was rainy and yucky so we didn't do that too long.

The Catskills.

We weren't planning to do this but since it was so close we decided to stop in at Woodstock, too.  We ate at a cute little place and sat outside.  We then went into a couple of stores.  I couldn't get over how hippie everything really was there and I don't think it was just for show.

The view at lunch.

Yes, that's a Yankee's glass they tried to serve Sean in. He told them he wanted a different glass.

We drove through Massachusetts (state #13) to get to our next, and final night's stop, Newport, Rhode Island (state #14).  I LOVED this town!!!  We stayed at the cutest bed and breakfast.  It was built in 1870.  Look how amazing it was.

Staircase landing - look at the detail on that!

Our room - look at that view!

The ceiling in our room - so amazing!

We took Duke walking around the city (I was looking for a jewelry trunk show they were having - found it and loved it!) and then headed back to have a glass of wine as we watched the sun set from the back yard of our B&B.  We had dinner at a neat restaurant on the water and met a pirate.  He claimed to be a real one and said he has a part in the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie.  You know I'll be on the look-out for that when it comes out.  It was so cold and windy we took one of those bicycle cart thingies back to the B&B.  He said he was an architect and was doing this as a bet with his wife.  The bet was he could make more money riding the bikes then she was spending on a gym membership.  When we got back we lit a fire in the fireplace in our room and called it a night.

What a great way to spend the final night of our trip - so romantic, relaxing and fun!  We're totally going back!  One final day of driving and we'll be home and we start the job of trying to find everything we've shoved in the Jeep.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!
