summer of babies - part 3

the baby loons have arrived!!!

i can't tell you how excited i am that there are two!
they are just little fluff balls at this point
and how sweet is it that as they are so little
they ride on the mommas back

summer of babies - part 2

we have some loon babies incubating!
well, we don't actually know how many there are just yet
but i can't wait!
here's one of the parents keeping the eggs warm

and we believe this to be the other parent
trying to cool off after his turn protecting the eggs

the summer of babies - part 1

mother nature has been busy this summer
reproducing

it's going to be so fun to watch these ducklings grow up this summer

there are 9 of those cute little fur balls!

and they have one amazing mother
watching after them
i now know where the phrase
keep your ducks in a row comes from

she brings them up to our yard for a snack
it's funny when you're working away at your desk
and you turn around to see little ducklings
inches away from the sliding glass door
plus they are so cute napping on our beach
just as long as they don't poop anywhere  ;)

mother nature at her finest

what i love most about our time in maine
is the safe haven my husband has created
for all the creatures
and that duke doesn't bother
from the chipmunks

to the birds

to the grey squirrels (not the red ones)

we've even had some visits from a woodchuck and some raccoons
but this one...
mother nature is not at her finest...

a chipmunk photoshoot

remember the safe haven for nature i described
that my husband has made
besides having nature all around you
it has other benefits
like offering photoshoot opportunities that aren't the norm

amy and i found this scale while antiquing one year
and sean and i turned it into a bird feeder

that is enjoyed by all creatures, great and small, at all times of the day and night
like birds, chipmunks, squirrels and even raccoons

it was so much fun snapping away
while this little guy filled his cheeks to the brim

i realize the pics aren't the sharpest but they sure are cute!!!

texas visitors

we don't get many visitors in texas
i guess it's not as picturesque or something
but this year my brother and his family came for a visit on their spring break
we did all sorts of things - like taking guzzy for an overnight trip

a stop at the fort worth stockyards

to see the rodeo

then it was off to dinosaur world

which happens to be pet friendly - which we love

then it was back home to help uncle sean feed the birds

and the dallas aquarium

and finally, we rounded out the fun with some easter egg coloring

it was a blast and we can't wait for them to come back!

winter nature

sean cares a lot about nature

the four legged

or the winged type

and always makes sure they are well fed

which i'm sure they appreciate when we have our few days of "bad" weather

great ice storm of 2013

texas had an ice storm
which is a big deal
cuz the whole state shuts down
and can't function
but guess what?
my camera can!
so I took the opportunity to get some pictures in remembrance
enjoy!
the birds sure enjoyed the plethora of food sean provided them
while all their other food was covered in ice

fishermen

one of the great things about where we live in maine
is all the other people on the lake with us
there are some really great people here

meet our resident fisherman...and his son

they can be found out fishing every evening, weather permitting
when we're out for our evening cruise they tell us how they're biting

and sean always mentions how he wishes he would fish
and i tell him if he does...and cleans it...i'll cook it up

and still not a single fish
maybe some day...
