migration north - day 4

today it was time to move on
first stop was biloxi, mississippi

so we could dip our toes in the sand

we also spent a little time talking to a very nice gentleman
that was fishing off the pier

he was telling us about how much the area has changed
especially since hurricane katrina
i had a picture in my mind of biloxi
and it was nothing what i was expecting

our final stop for the night was noccalula falls, alabama
the campground had a waterfall near it
so i grabbed my new camera bag and tripod and we headed out to find it

the instructions on how to get there were a little sketchy
but we did find the trail

which we had to go down on our butts for part of
and did i mention we were wearing flip flops?
and that the sun was quickly setting?
but it was well worth it
even with being stalked

to get the shot i came for...

plus this bonus shot

migration north - day 3

today we headed to slidel, louisiana
to feed the dangerous, man-eating alligators...
marshmallows!

since all our activities to date
required duke to stay at the rv alone
we took him for a walk through the french quarter
after our swamp tour

this included all the tourist stuff
like hurricanes

and beignets

and crawfish

migration north - day 2

day 2 found us staying put in new orleans
cuz it was jazz fest weekend!

since the bourbon street adventure went on far too late
we actually laid low to recover a little

those of you that know me
know i have very eclectic taste in music
which made jazz fest perfect for me
cuz i could listen to pearl jam, mystikal, maxwell, van morrison and boz scaggs
all in one place!
the problem with jazz fest...
there were far too many people for my taste! :)

in case you were wondering - boz scaggs was my favorite!

migration north - day 1

for our migration north this year
we decided to take a little more time
and actually get to see stuff
that's why you'll notice that this is far from a straight shot
like our first stop being new orleans
this was sean's first trip to new orleans

it's awesome to have friends that invite you to join them
on a balcony on bourbon street

it was hilarious to see how the passersby went downhill quickly
as the night progressed

sean's comments on bourbon street
"i'm so glad i never came here when i was in my 20s"
"it smells of stale, watered down beer"

red river

we had so much fun in red river last year
that we headed back again
this time we flew into albuquerque and then drove

i did some car photography during the drive

sean even pulled over and let me take a few

we also stopped in taos to break up the trip

it seems that once we got to red river
i didn't take any pictures
perhaps with my phone instead

kansas baseball in texas

last fall when all the new apple stuff was getting ready to be announced
sean made the comment that when phones had better pixels than my camera
then he would get me a new camera
well guess what...

i got a new camera for christmas!
and i've had a lot of fun playing around with it

and learning all the features

my first real playing around

was when my nephew came to town

to play baseball with his college team

since he plays for the hesston larks

which is in kansas

you can probably guess i don't get to see him play very often

so it was extra special that his team came to texas for a tournament

it was also great to him my sister and brother in law come and stay for a few days!
